DIY Woven Dog Toy - Video Instructions

Items Needed

  • 4 Strips of Cotton Fabric
    • Small Dog/Normal Chewing Habits
      • 20 inches long by 4 inches wide each
    • Medium Dog/Normal Chewing Habits
      • 28 inches long by 4 inches wide each
    • Large Dog/Normal Chewing Habits
      • 36 inches long by 4 inches wide each
    • Aggressive Chewer - cut out 8 strips of fabric instead of 4 and follow the length dimensions depending on the size of the dog
  • Thread Color of Your Choice
  • **For a no-sew option use fleece instead of cotton, and jump to step 5

Step 1: Gather your four strips of cotton fabric. Fold over each strip so right sides are together along the long seam (hot dog fold), and pin.

There will be four strips that are now pinned.

Step 2: Sew along the bottom of the strip and up the long edge. Do not completely sew the strip as you will need to turn it! You will want there to be an opening. Repeat for each strip.

Step 3: Flip each strip so the right side of the fabric is showing.

Step 4: Either hand sew the strip shut, or fold a 1/4 inch of fabric in and machine sew the strip. Repeat for each strip. If you are feeling fancy, you can put a seam at the other end of the strip so they match.

Step 5: Gather the four strips, line them up, and sew a seam so the four strips are connected. If you are using fleece, you can tie a knot in the fleece instead.

Step 6: With the four strips, begin to weave them together. Fold up the bottom strip (strip A), take the right strip (strip B), and fold it to the left, fold the top strip(strip C) down, and bring the left strip (strip D) over strip C and under strip A. The pattern should look like a patchwork square from above.
Continue with this pattern until you have about two inches left of cotton fabric strips. If you are using fleece, stop when you have about three inches of fleece left.

Step 7: Gather the strips, and sew a seam across. If you are using fleece, you can knot off the fabric instead.

Step 8: Let your pup play with the toy!

DIY Mouse Cat Toy - Video Instructions

Items Needed

  • 2 Pieces of Cotton Fabric (Cut two of the pattern attached)
  • 1 Piece of the Bottom Fabric (Cut one of the button piece of the mouse)
  • 1 Piece of 6 inch Ribbon
  • Thread Color of Your Choice
  • Fabric Scraps/Stuffing

Step 1: Pin the ribbon on the right side of the bottom piece of the fabric.

Step 2: Sew the ribbon to the fabric. The ribbon is now a tail!

Step 3: Sew one piece of the mouse body to the bottom piece of the fabric so right sides are together. You are going to be sewing on a curve, so it's important to pin it! Be sure to keep the ribbon away from the seam, so you don't accidentally sew over it. I pinned the tail to the body to be sure I didn't sew the tail again.

Step 4: Sew with right sides together of the mouse body. This is sewing the second piece of the mouse body to the rest of the fabric so far.

Step 5: The last step is to sew the second side of the body to the bottom of the mouse. You will want to sew for about two inches, but then leave the rest open. This will be your hole to flip the body and to stuff it! Be sure to take out the pin holding the tail, if you had added this.

Step 6: Flip the mouse so you see the right side of the fabric! You now have a mouse!

Step 7: Stuff the mouse using small fabric scrap pieces or stuffing. Fabric scraps work really well for this as they are light and keep the mouse easy to fling around! If you have stuffing you can definitely use that too. Another option is to place a little catnip inside if you want to give your cat a surprise!

Step 8: Hand sew the mouse bottom closed. You can also put a knot in the ribbon to help prevent any fraying!

Step 9: Let your cat play!!
