DIY Bucket Hat | Learn to Sew a Bucket Hat | Easy and Free Bucket Hat Patter

It's officially summer, and let's keep our skin looking amazing with a great bucket hat!

This is a reversible hat, but I will refer to the pieces as outside and lining just for simplicity. The pattern pieces for this hat can be found at the end of this post.

  • 1 Circle Piece of Outside Material (Pattern Piece A)
  • 1 Circle Piece of Lining (Pattern Piece A)
  • Cut two on fold of Pattern Piece B (lining)
  • Cut two on fold of Pattern Piece B (outside material)
  • Cut two on fold of Pattern Piece C (lining)
  • Cut two on fold of Pattern Piece C (outside material)
Step 1: With right sides together, pin pattern piece B together for both the lining and then repeat this with the outside material. Take a seam.

Step 2: Press the seam open, and measure the circumference of the material you just sewed to ensure it matches the circumference of the circle material. If it does, take the second seam to create a closed loop for both the lining and the outside material.
Step 3: Press the seam, and with right sides together pin the circle to the inner rim of the loop you just created for both the outside material and the lining. Take a seam.

Step 4: Repeat steps 1 and 2 for the brim of the hat, and then press the seam open. Then repeat step 3 by adding the brim loop to the loop created by pattern pieces B. You should have something resembling a hat now. Take a seam

Step 5: With right sides together, pin the two hats together and take a seam around the outside of the brim. Leave a two inch gap for turning.
Step 6: Top stitch around the hat brim, an inch in from the brim, then two inches in from the brim, and then sew in the ditch around the seam connecting pieces B and C.

The pattern pieces used are below. A gauge is provided to help ensure they are the correct size before you cut out the fabric!
